Are you ready to crack the code on Medicare’s biggest shake-up in chronic disease management? In this must-watch video, Kait Miller unpacks the game-changing Medicare Chronic Disease Management Framework rolling out on July 1, 2025—a transformation set to revolutionise the way GPs, practice managers, and allied health professionals approach chronic care.

This webinar delves into the fascinating world of addiction, revealing how the hormone melatonin may revolutionise treatment. It explores the intricate connection between circadian rhythms, sleep, and drug addiction. It's not merely about sleep; it's about how melatonin influences brain reward pathways, the immune system, and the gut microbiome.

Addiction is far more complex than substance use alone. In this webinar, we explore the reality of addiction as a chronic, relapsing condition influenced by biology, psychology, and social context. You’ll learn why physical dependence is not the same as addiction, how genetics and environment interact, and why a thorough addiction history is essential for effective assessment and treatment.

We also examine addiction through a more human lens—viewing it as an abusive relationship with substances—and discuss why the DSM criteria, while useful, don’t always reflect the lived severity of the disorder. Most importantly, we emphasise that recovery is possible, and that long-term management can support meaningful change for many individuals.

This session helps practitioners deepen their understanding of the neurobiology of addiction, recognise the influence of social context, and better support patients on their recovery journey.

A special thank-you to Dr Richard Bradlow, who kindly re-recorded his talks from the recent Healthscope/Meducate live event in Melbourne so that those unable to attend in person could still benefit from the presentation.

  • What is Addiction

This webinar provides a practical, evidence-based introduction to brief interventions and harm reduction strategies, supporting safer patient care across a range of settings. Dr Richard Bradlow explains the fundamentals of brief interventions—including motivational interviewing, patient-led goal setting, and the use of tools such as the AUDIT-C to identify risky alcohol use.

You’ll learn how to engage patients with empathy, honesty, and a friendly, non-judgmental approach, helping them move toward meaningful change—even when abstinence isn’t their goal.

The session also covers harm reduction strategies for alcohol, cannabis, stimulants, and opioids, offering practical tips such as safer consumption methods, recognising overdose risks, naloxone use, hydration and nutrition for stimulant users, and how to minimise harm without encouraging drug use.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Brief interventions rely on motivational interviewing

    • AUDIT-C helps assess risky drinking

    • Patient-driven goals are most effective

    • Harm reduction supports safety without promoting use

    • Naloxone saves lives in opioid overdose

    • Drug ingestion method impacts health risks

    • Hydration, nutrition, and substance testing reduce harm

A heartfelt thank-you to Dr Richard Bradlow, who kindly re-recorded his talks from the recent Healthscope/Meducate event to ensure access for those unable to attend in person.

Medicinal cannabis is emerging as a promising option for selected chronic conditions, offering potential relief for patients who have not responded well to conventional treatments. This webinar provides a clear, evidence-informed introduction to its therapeutic uses, eligibility considerations, and the science that underpins its effects.

We explore the endocannabinoid system (ECS), the differences between THC and CBD formulations, and the key factors clinicians must consider when prescribing— including safety, legality, product selection, and pathways such as SASP and Authorised Prescriber access. You’ll also gain historical context on cannabis use and learn how regulatory changes since 2016 have shaped access in Australia.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Chronic conditions affect half of Australians; medicinal cannabis may offer alternative relief

    • Eligibility varies—cannabis is not suitable for all conditions

    • THC vs CBD ratios and formulations influence therapeutic outcomes

    • The ECS plays a central role in symptom regulation and treatment response

    • Prescribing requires careful consideration of safety, legal frameworks, and patient characteristics
